Home Remedies For Dengue And Its Benefits

Dengue fever is characterized by sudden high fever going up to 105 degrees, acute body pain and severe headache marks the beginning of disease. Patient's body is noted with red rash all over the body in a weeks' time. The next stage is the onset of dengue hemorrhagic fever, which causes bleeding inside the body, especially nose bleeding, gum and mouth bleeding. The symptoms will last for about 15 days and the therapy mainly focuses on fever management and consumption of few drugs to alleviate the symptoms.

The patient is advised with a complete bed rest, which brings down the activity in the body and energy required for daily living. This reserves the energy for the development of antibodies which counter attacks the dengue viruses. Garlic has very good ability to fight the spread of viruses. Consumption of two cloves of garlic will lower the spread of the virus. Drinking hot garlic soups with vegetables will lower the multiplication of viruses. It is essential to maintain water and electrolyte balance in the body, also called water-ion balance. These two elements can be brought in to balance by consumption of oral re-hydration solution called ORS.

Apart from ORS, patient is advised to consume large quantities of water. This will help in flushing out the virus through excretion. When it comes to diet, consumption of green vegetables has proved to be effective. Eating of rice will hasten the healing process when it comes to dengue. Drinking of hot fluids will help in maintaining body temperature which lowers the chillness. Hot soups and herbal teas are recommended. Soup is a spicy hot liquid made of spices like cinnamon, garlic and pepper. This will help to increase the body temperature. Coriander leaves can be chewed or added in to soups to reduce the fever. Roots of amaltas can also be consumed after extracting juice from it.

Other recommended ingredients as a part of home remedy are fenugreek leaves commonly called as methi and tulsi leaves. These two leaves will soothe the effects of dengue fever and reduce the symptoms. In the recovery phase, it's important to govern the production of antibodies. The antibody secretion can be improved by taking orange juice, amla juice and by consumption of grape fruit. Vitamin C in these fruits will help to improve the cellular immunity and thus preventing the dengue fever to move in to fatal next stage called dengue hemorrhagic fever.

Consumption of caffeine can exaggerate the effects of dengue. So consumption of neural stimulants like caffeine and alcohol can be avoided during the recovery phase of dengue, as alcohol causes dehydration in the system, which will alleviate the symptoms. It's advised to avoid junk foods, foods with high sugar content, stuff that supply empty calories. The fried foods should be totally avoided as it will accentuate the symptoms of dengue. Apart from this, these foods will not supply enough nutrition required for the body to recover from the dengue.
